National Leadership 100 Sunday To Be Observed For Eighth year

His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, has issued an Encyclical on behalf of the Holy Eparchial Synod commemorating the eighth observance of National Leadership 100 Sunday on October 23, 2016, the actual Feastday of Saint Iakovos. It was designated in 2009 in honor of Archbishop Iakovos of Blessed Memory, the Founder of Leadership 100, to be observed on the Sunday nearest the Feastday. This year’s celebration falls three days prior to the Feastday of Saint Demetrios.

Leadership 100 Supports Church Camps For Sixth Year

Leadership 100 awarded the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries Camping Ministry program $270,000 for the sixth consecutive year in 2016. Grants of $30,000 were distributed to the Direct Archdiocesan District and to each Metropolis. The primary purpose of the grant is to enable Greek Orthodox youth who do not have the financial means to participate in a summer camp program. Some funding may also be applied to programming, supplies, transportation, youth protection training and background checks of staff members. The program was once again in full swing across the country in the summer of 2016, making it possible for numerous young people to attend camp programs.

John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Centers Celebrate 20th Anniversary Of Founding

The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Centers at five universities in Iowa, along with the State of Iowa, celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Centers through the generosity and vision of their founders, John C. and Mary Pappajohn of Des Moines, Iowa, long-time member of Leadership 100.

At an event at the Des Moines Marriott Hotel on September 15, Iowa Governor, Terry Branstad, who also served as Governor when the Centers were founded called the Pappajohns more than “benefactors”, but also visionary reformers of the universities.

Archdiocesan Cathedral Honors Shipowner Peter C. Georgiopoulos

The Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity honored Peter C. Georgiopoulos with the Holy Trinity Award at its 81st Annual Gala on September 17 at The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. Some 500 members and guests were in attendance.

Georgiopoulos is a member of Leadership 100 and Chairman and CEO of Gener8 Maritime as well as the Founder and Chairman of its predecessor General Maritime Corporation and Genco Shipping and Trading Limited. Since December 2006 he has presided as Chairman of the Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc., a leading independent supplier of marine fuel. He is an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and is a member of the American Bureau of Shipping. He serves on the boards of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, the Alfred E. Smith Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House.

Leadership 100 Members Testify In Support of Ecumenical Patriarchate

Leadership 100 Chairman Emeritus Constantine Caras and members, Dr. Stamatios Kartalopoulos and Anita Kartalopoulos traveled to Warsaw, Poland to testify on September 26 and 27, 2016 before the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Caras and Dr. Kartalopoulos who represented the Archons of the Order of St. Andrew at the OSCE meeting, had a private meeting with the United States State Department delegation and provided them with the most current information regarding the status of our Ecumenical Patriarchate in Turkey.
