Leadership 100 to Celebrate 35th Anniversary At Annual Conference in Boca Raton, Florida

Leadership 100 will celebrate the 35th Anniversary of its founding at its 28th Annual Leadership 100 Conference, February 21-24, 2019, at the Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton, Florida. Leadership 100 was founded in 1984 by Archbishop Iakovos of Blessed Memory and a small group of dedicated lay leaders. Beginning with a modest membership it has grown to 1,088 members today. Over the last three and a half decades, more than $51 million in grants has been disbursed to support the National Ministries and institutions of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, as well as Metropolis Ministries, other programs and projects that advance Orthodoxy and Hellenism, and humanitarian needs in the nation and around the world.

Father Alex and Presbytera Xanthi Karloutsos Honored with the 2018 Athenagoras Human Rights Award

On Saturday, October 27, 2018, the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate honored Father Alexander and Presbytera Xanthi Karloutsos with the Athenagoras Human Rights Award for their advocacy on behalf of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, at the organization’s annual banquet at the New York Hilton Midtown. The event drew record attendance, raising $1.4 million for the Endowment Fund of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, according to Archon National Commander Dr. Anthony Limberakis. Limberakis addressed the event along with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America and Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, representing His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, former Vice President Joe Biden, a previous recipient of the prestigious award and Fr. Alex and Presbytera Xanthi Karloutsos. James Karloutsos, Fr. Alex’s older brother, gave a moving testimonial, while Fr. Peter Karloutsos, his younger brother, assisted Archbishop Demetrios with the Invocation.

George E. Safiol Presented with Nicholas J. Bouras Award

His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America along with National Commander of the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Anthony J. Limberakis, presented the Nicholas J. Bouras Award for Extraordinary Archon Stewardship to George E, Safiol, Archon Archiophylax, on Friday, October 26, 2018 at special tribute dinner at the New York Athletic Club. Safiol has been a member of the Order's governing body, the National Council, for nearly 20 years and served as Chairman of the Audit Committee and of the Bouras Award for the last seven years. Safiol is a long-time member of Leadership 100, having served on the Executive Committee, as Treasurer and Chairman of the Audit Committee and Hellenic College/Holy Cross Leadership 100 Scholarship Committee. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees, of which he has been a member for 21 years.

Archons Class of 2018

Leadership 100 Members Among 27 Archons Invested with Office

Each year the Archon Offikion is conferred upon a select group by the Ecumenical Patriarch, as represented by his Exarch the Archbishop of America at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. On Sunday morning, October 27, 2018 Archbishop Demetrios presided at the Divine Liturgy and the ceremony of investiture of 27 new Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. He was joined by Metropolitans Alexios of Atlanta, Evangelos of New Jersey, and Emmanuel of France, representing the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Michael Johnson Honored with 2018 Jaharis Service Award

Michael Johnson, a member of the Leadership 100 Board of Trustees, was honored with the 2018 Jaharis Service Award by the Washington Oxi Day Foundation at a ceremony at the National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC on October 25, 2018. This award is presented each year during celebration of #OXIcourage in Washington, DC. It celebrates the life and legacy of Michael Jaharis, a Founder of Leadership 100, by recognizing an individual for their dedicated service to the country during the Korean War and for their many contributions, in the spirit of Michael Jaharis, to the Greek-American community, to the United States and to the world. The award was presented to Johnson by the Executive Director of the Jaharis Family Foundation, Peggy Sotirhos Nicholson.
