Chimples Honored At Membership Event

George C. Chimples, a Founding Member of Leadership 100, was honored September 26 in Cleveland at a luncheon for Leadership 100 Members and prospects in recognition of his long-time leadership and his 90th birthday, which he will celebrate on October 23. John A. Payiavlas, National Membership Co-Chairman and Chairman Emeritus, hosted the event, which he organized as a tribute to Chimples for his dedication to philanthropy and to the Greek Orthodox Church.

Angelo Coutris, Metropolis of Pittsburgh Membership Chairman, who served as Master of Ceremonies, expressed his respect and heartfelt gratitude to Chimples for serving as a role model, announced the good news that five new members had joined Leadership 100 in honor of Mr. Chimples. They are: Emanuel and Elaine Cotronakis, Glykeria Bitounis, Peter C. Bitounis, Alexis E. Coutris and John and Maria Coutris. They are among 36 new members who have joined in 2008 toward the goal of 63 new members. Total membership now stands at 783.

Payiavlas, in paying tribute, said that he and his wife, Marisa, felt humbled and proud to host a luncheon in honor of such an exceptional Christian. Paulette Poulos, Executive Director (Interim) of Leadership 100, reflected on the vital role that both Chimples and his wife, Janet, have played in the life of the organization, which will mark its 25th Anniversary in 2009. She referred to their many philanthropic accomplishments in support of the Church and its institutions and their contributions to Leadership 100 in moving toward its ultimate goal of 1,000 members.
