John P. Calamos, Sr. Honored By The Pan Arcadian Federation Of America
John P. Calamos, Sr., a prominent member of Leadership 100, was honored by the Pan Arcadian Federation of America (PFA) at its 73rd National Convention on October 24, 2016, for his lifetime of philanthropic contributions. He was presented with the “Panagiotis Sekeris Award” at the closing banquet in Chicago.
Calamos is the Founder, Chairman, and Global Chief Investment Officer of Naperville-based Calamos Investments, a global asset manager. He is an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Chairman of the National Hellenic Museum in Chicago. He has long been a supporter of Greek-American organizations and causes, such as The Hellenic Initiative and the National Hellenic Society.
His father, Peter Calamos, immigrated to the United States during World War I, from a small village near Tripoli, Greece, in the region of Arcadia.
The Pan-Arcadian Federation of America was founded in New York in 1931 and headquartered in Chicago. It is a national non-profit Greek American organization that promotes the ideals of Hellenism and the principles of Democracy. PFA also promotes the preservation of the Greek language and cultural heritage and supports the Greek Orthodox Church, Arcadian and Arcadian-American philanthropic, cultural and educational institutions.
The Pan Arcadian Hospital in Tripoli, Greece, is the jewel of PFA's contributions to the motherland. PFA also takes pride in its role as a contributor to the National Hellenic Museum, the Greek American Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wheeling, IL, and the Saint Basil Academy (Pan Arcadian Gymnasium) in Garrison, NY.
The event also honored Gregory Roumpos and the late Kostas P. Papantoniou with the "Theodoros Kolokotronis Award" and Dr. James G. Kallins, MD with the "William Helis Award".
His Grace Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos joined Andreas Papantoniou, the newly elected President of the PFA, outgoing President Kostas Kapogianis, Convention Chairman George Reveliotis, and PFA Board of Trustees Chairman George Sourounis in presenting the Awards.
