Leadership 100 Conference Awards

Leadership 100, meeting at its 26th Annual Conference at the Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa in Manalapan, Florida from February 9-12, 2017, conferred the Archbishop Iakovos Award for Excellence upon Dr. Anthony S. Papadimitriou, President of the Onassis Foundation, James S. Chanos, the pioneering investment manager, Jonathan Jackson, the Emmy Award-winning actor, musician and author, and Gus Kalaris, founder and owner of Constantine Wines, Inc.

A special Archbishop Iakovos Founders Award was presented to Chairman Emeritus Stephen G. Yeonas, for his contributions both as National Membership Chairman and as Chairman of Leadership 100. The presentations took place at the Grand Banquet on Saturday, February 11, 2017.

In addition, Peter P. Parthenis and Dr. George N. Carayannopoulos (in absentia) were presented with commendations for Distinguished Service to the Board of Trustees at the General Assembly on Friday, while Icons were presented to new members and Obelisks to fulfilled members at a special ceremony on Saturday.

His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, who conducted the traditional Bible Study and Lecture, and George S. Tsandikos, Leadership 100 Chairman, presented all the awards.

The Conference, which saw a record attendance of 500 members, also included major addresses by Dr. Papadimitriou, Chanos and Jonathan Jackson, who also performed with his brother, the actor and musician Richard Lee Jackson. An Opening Forum was conducted by the dynamic Director of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Department of Youth & Young Adult Ministries, and Camping Ministries, Steven Christoforou. Kalaris presented the Axios and Kalaris wines at a Wine Tasting at the Welcome Reception. Both Chanos and Kalaris are members of Leadership 100, as is the Onassis Foundation.

Special addresses were given by Marianna Moschou, President of ELEPAP, Hellenic Society for Disabled Children, Dr. George Koulianos, Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Center for Family Care-The Clergy Initiative, and Rev. Fr. John Touloumes, President, Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Presbyters Council.

Other events included Golf Classic and Tennis Classic Tournaments and Awards, organized by Peter J. Pappas, a member of the Leadership 100 Executive Committee, and the Leadership 100 Walk/Run, organized by Mike Manatos, also a member of the Leadership 100 Executive Committee. Elaine Cotronakis and Maria Behrakis once again chaired the youth program.

First place awards in Golf went to Andreas Aivazoglou, John Aivazoglou, Nicholas Karalis and Peter J. Pappas, while second place went to Michael Baker, Nancy Baker, Dr. Douglas Baker and Mark Johnson. First place award in Tennis went to Dr. Constantine P. Bitounis, while second place went to Taylor Prodromos. The top finishers of the Leadership 100 Walk-Run were Sophia Pascal and Fr. Nicholas Andruchow.

The Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, assisted by Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit and Clergy, on Sunday, February 12 at St. Mark Church in Boca Raton.
