Christopher Stratakis, a long-time member of Leadership 100, was honored by the Order of Saint Andrew Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate with the Nicholas J. Bouras Award for Extraordinary Archon Stewardship on October 17, 2014. His wife, Maro, also a member of Leadership 100 was recognized as well.

A Ground Blessing ceremony for the Saint Nicholas National Shrine at the World Trade Center took place on October 18, 2014 at its site on Liberty Street, overlooking the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. As the only house of worship destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the church is set to be rebuilt as a shrine by the end of 2016. Some 2,500 persons were in attendance.

National Leadership 100 Sunday was observed in more than 500 parishes of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese on October 26, 2014, the sixth consecutive celebration. This year’s event, which followed the Feast of Saint Iakovos in honor of the Founder of Leadership 100, coincided with the Feast of Saint Demetrios. It also marked the year-long celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Leadership 100.

The Hellenic Initiative honored three outstanding members of Leadership 100 with The Hellenic Leadership Award at the 2nd Annual Banquet at The Museum of Modern Art on October 2, 2014. George D. Behrakis, Chairman Emeritus, John D. Pappajohn, a former member of the Board of Trustees and long-time member of the Investment Committee, and Peter G. Peterson, a recipient of the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 Award for Excellence were acknowledged for their extraordinary leadership in the business world and in philanthropy.

Peter A. Vlachos, an innovator and leader for more than 50 years in the financial industry and long-time member of Leadership 100 who has served on its Board of Trustees and chaired its Investment Committee for almost two decades, was honored as HANAC’S “Man of the Year” at HANAC’S GALA 2014 on October 24, 2014, at The Mandarin Oriental in New York City.

The James Pedas Communication Center, a state-of-the-art technology, collaborative teaching and learning space, was dedicated at 150-year-old Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania on October 4, 2014.
