Jim Logothetis Honored By Greek Educators (By Revekka Papadopoulos)

Demetrios (Jim) G. Logothetis, newly elected Vice Chairman of Leadership 100 and a Senior Partner at Ernst & Young, was honored by the Federation of Hellenic American Educators and Cultural Associations of America at their 2nd Annual "Greek Language" Celebration at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City on Sunday, March 4, 2018.

The event, co-organized by the Hellenic Paideia of America and the Department of Greek Education of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese celebrated International Greek Language Day, which has been officially declared as February 9 by the Hellenic Republic.

Honorees also included Christina Tettonis, principal of the Hellenic Classical Charter School (HCCS) in Brooklyn, and Dr. Georgia Filiotis, educator and community activist, for their dedication to promote Hellenic ideals and language in the United States.

Stella Kokolis, President of the Federation and a member of Leadership 100, along with Vasiliki Filiotis of the “Paideia" organization, welcomed the attendees, which included Jim Logothetis’ wife, Marianthe, and Paulette Poulos, Executive Director of Leadership 100. Dr. Ioannis Efthymiopoulos, Director of the Department of Geek Education, was the keynote speaker. Greece's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Dionysios Kalamvrezos, offered remarks.

The program included a special presentation by the students of HCCS in honor of their principal and a musical interlude by soprano Anna Tsoukala and pianist Gregory Post.

"Greek education is the best investment we could make for our kids' and grandkids' future", Logothetis stated in receiving his award. He urged the Greek American community to financially support the cause of Hellenic Education in the USA.

Jim Logothetis was born in the village of Karatoula Kynourias in Arcadia, Greece. He joined Ernst & Young in January 1979 and was promoted to partner in 1990. He has served in the Global Lead Partner role for various global public and private companies, including Chrysler Corp, Whirlpool, Brunswick, Newell Rubbermaid, Case New Holland, Grainger, Porsche, Molex, and Harley - Davidson. He currently serves in that role for The Coca-Cola Company, based in Atlanta.

Logothetis has always made his faith and Greek heritage a priority in his life and remained very close to his roots in Greece and to the Greek community in the United States.

He is a founding member and has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hellenic American Academy in Chicago since 2004. He has also served as a member of the Archdiocesan Council and Parish Council President of Holy Trinity Church in Chicago as well as on the Advisory Council of the DePaul University College of Commerce and its Finance Department.

He currently serves on the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee of the National Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center. In 2004 he was named an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
