George And Judy Marcus Honored By Metropolis Of San Francisco

George and Judy Marcus, long-time members of Leadership 100, were honored by the Metropolis of San Francisco for their leadership and stewardship on November 15, 2014. They were presented with The Theofanis Economidis Award at a Gala whose theme was Honoring Extraordinary Leadership and Celebrating our Ministries.

 George Marcus was noted for his visionary leadership of The Marcus & Millichap Company, which he founded and served as Chairman since 1971, and his service to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and to the Metropolis of San Francisco, as well as to the Greek-American community. An Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, he served for many years on the Board of Trustees of Leadership 100 and is the founder of the National Hellenic Society. Judy Marcus was cited for her innovative community activism for many philanthropic causes in the San Francisco Bay Area.

His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco and Theofanis Economidis, Vice President of the Metropolis Council, presented the award, along with Gala co-chairs, Dr. Kenneth Frangadakis and Jeannie Ranglas, all of whom are distinguished members of Leadership 100. This award was inaugurated at the 2013 Gala at which it was presented to Theofanis Economidis and subsequently named after him in recognition of his more than 30 years of devoted service to the Church.

After accepting the award, a stunning Baccarat Imperator Eagle, George announced that he would match the net proceeds of the Gala in support of the Metropolis, and will also make a matching gift to the Roman Catholic Church in honor of his wife, Judy.

The Gala was attended by nearly 450 supporters of the Metropolis and many prominent civic leaders including House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Governor Jerry Brown, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, and numerous others. The festive evening included personal video tributes to the Marcus’ from His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and United States President Barack Obama. Eleni Kounalakis, former US Ambassador to Hungary, also a member of Leadership 100, served as Master of Ceremonies.

George and Judy reside in Los Altos Hills, California and are the proud parents of four children: Mary Jane Marcus (Derek Gurney), John Moutsanas (Georgia), Demetra Marcus (Blaine Bell), and Alexandria Marcus. They are the even prouder grandparents of Jayden, Evvie, Jana and Yianni, with another on the way.
