Merkourios "Mike" Angeliades Honored By Hellenic Public Radio

Merkourios A. Angeliades, known as “Mike”, a prominent member of Leadership 100, was honored by Hellenic Public Radio-COSMOS FM 91.5 with The Phidippides Award at the 21st Annual Phidippides Award Gala Dinner on November 5, 2016 at Terrace on the Park in Flushing, New York. A native of Symi, Greece, who immigrated to the United States in 1960, Angeliades was acknowledged for his “passionate advocacy of Hellenism.”

Angeliades founded a modest enterprise, ANT Construction, in New York City in 1965. The company did improvements to homes and restaurants, as well as some city and state projects. In 1991, he established M.A. Angeliades, Inc., which grew into a multi-million dollar organization that has completed more than 300 projects in the New York City area, including many schools, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and correctional facilities, courts, libraries and firehouses. His company has been listed in the top 400 construction firms in the United States for the past several years. In addition, he has real estate interests in the Tri-State area and in South Bend, Indiana. He also owns Dairy Barn, a chain of drive-thru convenience stores on Long Island.

A civic and community leader, Angeliades is a major philanthropist who has supported many churches, athletic and non-profit organizations. One of the original founders of the Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Port Washington, New York, he is also an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle. In addition, he is a member of Faith: An Endowment for Orthodoxy and Hellenism and the AHEPA Gold Coast Chapter.

A strong believer in family and heritage, Angeliades has been married to his wife, Libby for more than 45 years. She is also a civic and community leader and active in many Hellenic causes. The couple resides in Sands Point, New York and has four daughters, five granddaughters and one grandson. They visit Symi every summer where they maintain a home.

Hellenic Public Radio-COSMOS FM 91.5 is the flagship radio service of the Greek American Educational Public Information System (GAEPIS, Inc.), a 501(c) (3) corporation founded in 1987. It is the only daily bilingual Greek radio presence in the New York Metropolitan Area reaching more than 200,000 listeners each week.
