National Centennial Committee Develops Plans

Argyris Vassiliou

Leadership 100 Chairman Argyris Vassiliou, in his capacity as Chairman of the National Centennial Committee, opened  remote planning meetings of the Committee on December 8 and 16. His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros appointed him to be Chairman of the National Centennial Committee, which was  established to coordinate events in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Archdiocese in 2022. The Archbishop asked each of the Metropolitans to nominate two representatives, including a cleric and a layperson for their Metropolis.

The celebration commenced with the visit of His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew from October 23 to November 3. Plans discussed include an interactive museum celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Archdiocese. His Grace Bishop Athenagoras will be coordinating contributions and will be asking the Metropolitans for historical materials and artifacts so that all Metropolises of the Archdiocese will be represented. This museum will be completed in time for the Clergy Laity Congress in July 2022 and be uploaded onto the Goarch.org website and be available to everyone.

Events will be held in New York during the 2022 Clergy Congress, and possibly at other times during the year. The Metropolises are encouraged to organize their own local events, but to coordinate dates with the National Committee to avoid overlap.

The first national event of 2022 will be held at the Leadership100 Conference, February 10-13, 2022. The Archdiocese will be highlighted with speakers from the Archdiocese and Dr. Alexander Kitroeff, who will speak on the history of the Archdiocese.
