George Sakellaris Wins 2016 RORC Caribbean 600

George Sakellaris, long-time member of Leadership 100 and prominent business leader and philanthropist, was declared overall winner of 2016 RORC (Royal Ocean Race Club) Caribbean 600 on February 25, 2016, skippering his Maxi72, Proteus (USA) yacht. He was awarded the RORC Caribbean 600 Trophy for the second time, having been overall winner with his Maxi72, Shockwave in the 2014 race.

The thrilling 70-yacht fleet 600-mile race around 11 Caribbean islands came down to four Maxi72s on the third day, with the lead changing hands on numerous occasions. Sakellaris’ Proteus was the first to finish the race, just over 20 minutes ahead of its nearest competitor. “We have beaten some great boats and the sailing was great and we had a beautiful venue,” said Sakellaris.

Sakellaris is a pioneer in energy efficiency and renewable energy contributing to a sustainable and clean environment. He is President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors, of Ameresco (NYCE: AMRC). He is a past member of the Board of Trustees of Hellenic College/Holy Cross School of Theology and is an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. His wife, Cathy, is a member of the Leadership 100 Board of Trustees.
