Leadership 100 Offers Matching Grant of $200,000 for the Greece Fire Relief
The Leadership 100 Executive Committee unanimously approved a $200,000 matching grant for the Greece Fire Relief today, according to Argyris Vassiliou, Chairman.
The action was in response to the request of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America who has appealed to individuals and organizations throughout the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and the Greek Community to donate to the Greece Fire Relief, a concerted coordination along with the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) in response to the fires that have ravaged Greece this year.
The Archbishop stated that “we must take swift action in the face of the perils threatening our Hellenic homeland, and we must join together in an act of solidarity and common mobilization to alleviate the pain and suffering of our fellow brothers and sisters overseas.”
According to Chairman Vassiliou, “Leadership 100 has always responded to the humanitarian crises in the world and most readily to the crises in Greece. By matching the funds raised through our Archbishop’s initiative, we will make a significant contribution to the reconstruction efforts in our beloved homeland and help bring relief to our fellow Hellenes. Leadership 100 stands united with them and our members in Greece, offering support and prayers during this critical time.”
The Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, described the devastating wildfires that burned across the country as the greatest ecological catastrophe Greece has seen in decades.
The fires broke out as the country experienced the most intense and protracted heat wave since 1987. Hundreds of wildfires erupted across the country, stretching Greece’s firefighting capabilities to the limit and leading the government to appeal for help from abroad.
