His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and US President Joseph Biden had a warm and cordial visit October 25, 2021, in the Oval Office at the White House.

The discussion involved the shared sense of urgency ushered by the climate crisis. The Ecumenical Patriarch noted that the need for political leaders to respond is particularly timely considering the imminent COP26 meeting in Glasgow.
 
His All-Holiness also thanked President Biden for his decisive response to the pandemic and for his readiness to support developing nations in securing Covid-19 vaccines for their populations. read more

On October 25, 2021, at a dinner at Georgetown University held in honor of His-All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Archon Michael Psaros announced the establishment of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Endowed Orthodox Chaplaincy at Georgetown University, endowed by the Psaros family with a 3-million-dollar donation promoting Interfaith Unity. read more

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Friends of Saint Nicholas officially commenced the 20th Anniversary remembrance of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, with a memorial service and the inaugural lighting of the Saint Nicholas National Shrine at the World Tarde Center on Friday, September 10, 2021. The service marked the first time the Church and National Shrine have participated in the annual commemorations. read more

The thirteenth observance of National Leadership 100 Sunday took place across the nation on October 17, 2021, a Sunday in proximity to the Feastday of Saint Iakovos on October 23, in honor of the Founder of Leadership 100, Archbishop Iakovos of Blessed Memory. His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America issued an Encyclical on behalf of the Holy Eparchial Synod, which was read at the Divine Liturgy by Parish Priests in every Metropolis and the direct Archdiocesan District. read more

On Saturday, October 2, 2021, the fifty-seven-member Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the United States of America kicked off the 10th Anniversary celebrations with Vespers at Saints Peter & Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church in Potomac, Maryland. After Vespers, Saints Peter & Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church hosted a private reception for the Bishops, local Clergy, and their families. read more

National Hellenic Society Honors Helen Nicozisis

Helen Nicozisis addresses the NHS 2021 Heritage Weekend and Classic. The oil painting of her was commissioned by the NHS and was donated to the National Hellenic Museum in Chicago as part of the permanent collection archiving the Greek American story.

The National Hellenic Society honored  NHS member Helen Bakalis Nicozisis with the prestigious Ariston Award for Excellence at the 2021 Heritage Weekend and Classic, October 7-10, in Las Vegas. The weekend was dedicated to the memory of the beloved Dr. George Korkos. Nicozisis, along with her husband, Lou, are long-time members of Leadership 100. Dr. Korkos was also a longtime member.

Helen Bakalis Nicozisis was the first lay person and woman to be elected  President of the Board of Directors of Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC). She served on the organization’s board for more than two decades and chaired its capital campaign for some five years, which led to the construction of the Archbishop Anastasios and Archbishop Demetrios Missionary Training and Administration Building, its new headquarters in St. Augustine, Florida. read more
