Dr. Panagiota (Penny) Andreopoulou, an Attending Endocrinologist in the Department of Medicine at Hospital for Special Surgery and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at the Weill Cornell Medical College, will join her sister, Dr. Eleni Andreopoulou, in addressing the Saturday Forum on February 14, 2015.

She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, as well as being a Certified Clinical Densitometrist for the accurate interpretation of Bone Mineral Density tests. Her clinical and academic interests include osteoporosis, calcium and phosphate metabolism and metabolic bone disorders.

Dr. Andreopoulou received her Medical Degree at the National University of Athens Medical School in Greece. Following her residency in Internal Medicine at New York Hospital Queens/Weill Cornell Medical College, she completed her endocrinology fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where she trained at the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR). She conducted clinical research at the Skeletal Clinical Studies Unit of the Craniofacial and Skeletal Diseases Branch of NIDCR and has published the results in peer-reviewed journals. She received the Endocrine Society Award in 2010.

Dr. Andreopoulou practices general endocrinology with a special focus on osteoporosis and bone health, which comprise the bulk of her medical practice at Hospital for Special Surgery, where she sees patients. She recently published a review on osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment in the Annual Reviews of Medicine. She is a member of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Women’s Association.

In addition, Dr. Andreopoulou is engaged in multiple activities aiming to increase awareness in the community about osteoporosis prevention, and the diagnosis, treatment and preservation of bone health. She gives community seminars at Hospital for Special Surgery and produces and hosts a weekly radio broadcast in Greek on health and wellness issues at the Hellenic Public Radio. She is a Vice President of the Hellenic Medical Society of New York and organizes the Society’s educational symposia and mentors younger colleagues of Greek origin.
