Leadership 100 Recognizes Role of Archbishop Iakovos in Historic Civil Rights Movement

Leadership 100 members paid homage to the role of Archbishop Iakovos in the historic Civil Rights Movement in several ways. Leadership 100 Partners plan to organize a Day of Service on Sunday, March 22nd, 2015 in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of Archbishop Iakovos accompanying Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the historic Selma to Montgomery March.

Philip G. Nicozisis, a long-time fulfilled member, marched in the Martin Luther King Day Parade on January 19, 2015 in Riviera Beach, Florida, carrying a poster-size copy of the iconic Life Magazine front page picturing Archbishop Iakovos with Martin Luther King, Jr. at the historic march. Nicozisis participated as a member of the Republican Committee of Palm Beach County, where he serves as Director of Finance.

For the Day of Service, Leadership 100 Partners will work with International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) to assemble emergency kits at select local Greek Orthodox parishes in several cities across the country during the afternoon of that day.

Initially targeted parishes will include churches in Boston, New York, Sacramento and Washington, DC.  Advisory Council members will take the lead in organizing the activity, materials and logistics within each of their relevant parishes.

“The Day of Service is meant to project Leadership 100’s mission and commitment to Orthodoxy in a meaningful way, offering an opportunity for participants to connect with fellow members in their local area for fellowship, networking and volunteering,” according to  Justin Bozonelis and George Soterakis, Co-Chairmen of Leadership 100 Partners. Participants will be tasked with spreading the word via social media, allowing for viral recognition of the event.

In addition to Bozonelis and Soterakis, the Advisory Council includes Leah Bitounis, Victoria Bousis, Mike Plakogiannis, Bill Rozakis, Alex Sioukas and Demos Zeppos.
