Admiral James Stavridis, Sylvia Burwell and John Angelos to Speak at Leadership 100 Conference

Admiral James Stavridis, Sylvia Mathews Burwell and John P. Angelos will be the main speakers at the 27th Annual Leadership 100 Conference, February 1- 4, 2018,  at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami in Key Biscayne, Florida, according to George S. Tsandikos, Chairman.

Admiral Stavridis was formerly Supreme Allied Commander at NATO and is currently Dean of The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. Burwell is the former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and current President of American University. Angelos is Executive Vice President of the Baltimore Orioles and President and Chief Operating Officer of the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN).

Stavridis, a Florida native, is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and earned a PhD from The Fletcher School at Tufts, winning the Gullion Prize as outstanding student in his class in 1983, as well as academic honors from the National and Naval War Colleges as a distinguished student. He spent over thirty years in the Navy, rising to the rank of 4-star Admiral. Among his many commands were four years as the 16th Supreme Allied Commander at NATO, where he oversaw operations in Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, the Balkans, and piracy off the coast of Africa. He also commanded US Southern Command in Miami, charged with military operations through Latin America for nearly three years. He was the longest serving Combatant Commander in recent US history.

Burwell, a West Virginia native, served as the 22nd United States Secretary of Health and Human Services during the Presidency of Barack Obama. Previously, she had been the Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget. A graduate of Harvard University and Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar at Worcester College, she first worked for the United States government in Washington, D.C., during the Presidency of Bill Clinton. She helped form the National Economic Council and served as Chief of Staff to Secretary of the Treasury Robert Rubin, Deputy White House Chief of Staff to Erskine Bowles, and finally Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget. After the end of the Clinton Presidency, she served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as the President of the Global Development Program of the Foundation, and as President of the Walmart Foundation.

Angelos is the elder son of Baltimore Orioles owner Peter G. Angelos. He manages the day-to-day business operations of the team. He led the launch of MASN as a full-time network in 2005. MASN is now available on basic cable, satellite, and telecom systems to 18 million viewers throughout Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C. and parts of Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Delaware and West Virginia. In 2006, he created the Orioles Radio Network in an effort to bring the team’s programming rights in house. Under his leadership, the Orioles adopted a wide range of consumer-friendly policies at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Angelos is a graduate of Duke University and received his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
