Dr. Anthony Limberakis Honored at Archdiocesan Cathedral Gala
Dr. Anthony J. Limberakis, National Commander of the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and a prominent member of Leadership 100, was honored with the Holy Trinity Award at the 82nd Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity's Cathedral Gala on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Guastavino's in New York. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, Fr. John Vlahos, Cathedral Dean, together with Cathedral President James Gianakis, Gala Chairs Justin Bozonelis, Stephanie Pantelidis and the Host Committee recognized Dr. Limberakis' 20 years of witness and service as a 'Defender of the Faith' for the Mother Church of Constantinople.
Fr. John remarked, "As Dr. Limberakis is nearing his impressive 20 year mark as National Commander of the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the entire Greek Orthodox Family in America is indebted to him for his faithful and inspiring leadership.” Gianakis introduced Limberakis noting that the Archons are “defenders of our faith around the world, decade after decade.”
Limberakis who is a medical doctor and practicing radiologist in Philadelphia was presented with the award, a specially commissioned Icon of the Holy Trinity, by the Archbishop, Fr. John and Gianakis. He accepted the award on behalf of all the Archons, His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, his wife Dr. Maria A. (Borden) and his family of three children and two grandchildren, whom he invited to join him during his acceptance speech. He said: “This award does not belong to me but to the 750 Archons in the United States who work ceaselessly to secure religious freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.”
Archbishop Demetrios expressed his gratitude to Limberakis and to the Archons for their achievements.
Also in attendance were the Honorable Theodore Bozonelis of the Archons, the Consul General of Greece in New York Konstantinos Koutras, Mrs. Anthi Philippou, wife of Ambassador Vasilios Philippou, Consul General of Cyprus, George S. Tsandikos, Vice Chairman of the Archdiocesan Council and Leadership 100 Chairman, and Paulette Poulos, Executive Director of Leadership 100.
