The Enduring Impact of Leadership 100 on Greek and Religious Education

For more than four decades, Leadership 100 has played a defining role in advancing Greek language and Orthodox Christian education across the United States. Through strategic investments in programs, curriculum development, and national initiatives, Leadership 100 continues to strengthen both the preservation of Hellenic identity and the transmission of Orthodox faith to future generations.

At the heart of this impact is a sustained commitment to education - ensuring that both language and faith remain vital, accessible, and deeply rooted in the life of the Church. Leadership 100’s support spans the full continuum of learning, from parish classrooms to advanced theological training, creating a unified and enduring ecosystem of Greek and religious education.

Hellenic College Holy Cross

A cornerstone of this investment is Leadership 100’s long-standing support of Hellenic College Holy Cross (HCHC), the only Greek Orthodox theological school in the United States. Through its Seminarian Scholarship Program, Leadership 100 continues to alleviate the financial burden of theological education, enabling students to fully dedicate themselves to academic and spiritual formation.

In the Fall 2025 semester alone, more than 50 seminarians received funding, with total scholarships exceeding $500,000 and covering a substantial portion of tuition and fees. To date, Leadership 100 has provided $32 million in grants to HCHC, with $29 million going to scholarships for seminarians.

The long-term impact is profound: a majority of recipients go on to serve the Church, with many becoming ordained clergy or actively engaged in parish life and ministry.

May 2026 Hellenic College Holy Cross Commencement

We proudly join the Orthodox faithful throughout the Archdiocese in congratulating Leadership 100 member Jeannie Ranglas on receiving an Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology at its 2026 Commencement exercises.

The degree recognized Jeannie's extraordinary record of philanthropy, servant leadership, and dedication to the Church. As President of the Metropolis of San Francisco Philoptochos, she championed the Bishop Anthony Philoptochos Student Aid Endowment Fund, which has provided more than $4 million in financial assistance to seminarians and students over the past four decades.

Together with her husband, Leadership 100 Board of Trustees Member and Archon Gerry Ranglas, Jeannie has faithfully supported Hellenic College Holy Cross, the Metropolis of San Francisco, the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine, and numerous educational and philanthropic initiatives throughout the Orthodox Christian community. Their presence at Commencement served as a powerful reminder of the impact Leadership 100 members continue to have in strengthening theological education and preparing future generations of Orthodox Christian leaders.

Supporting the Department of Greek Education

Recent initiatives funded by Leadership 100 reflect a comprehensive and forward-looking approach, bridging tradition with innovation to meet the evolving educational needs of today’s faithful. Through grants offered by Leadership 100, the Department of Greek Education has begun laying the groundwork for modernized, technology-enabled classrooms. This initiative aims to equip parish schools with advanced digital tools, enabling immersive language learning, multimedia instruction, and interactive cultural education experiences.

These efforts represent more than technological upgrades. They reflect a strategic commitment to elevating instructional quality while ensuring that Greek language education remains accessible, engaging, and relevant for younger generations.

At the same time, Leadership 100 funding has significantly expanded access to Greek education nationwide through virtual learning. The Virtual Greek Language School has enrolled more than 300 adult learners across the country, demonstrating both strong demand and broad geographic reach.

In parallel, teacher professional development programs, which were developed in collaboration with leading Greek universities, are helping to strengthen instructional methodologies and align educational standards with contemporary practices in Greece. Together, these efforts are creating a more connected and capable nationwide network of Greek language educators and learners.

Beyond language instruction, Leadership 100 has also had a profound impact on religious education and liturgical life. Through the Leadership 100 grant, the Archdiocese is producing a revised Pew Edition of the Divine Liturgy designed to provide a consistent, accessible, and theologically faithful liturgical resource for parishes across the country.

This initiative will support widespread engagement in worship and ensure that both clergy and laity have access to high-quality liturgical texts that enhance participation in the life of the Church.

Leadership 100’s impact is also felt directly in parish classrooms, where new curriculum materials bring Orthodox teachings to life for younger generations. Programs such as the Kids Sunday Sermon Series provide structured, age-appropriate lessons rooted in Scripture and the traditions of the Church which are helping students understand and live their faith through reflection, discussion, and action. These resources foster not only knowledge, but spiritual formation; encouraging children to actively engage with the Gospel and apply its teachings in their daily lives.

Looking ahead, Leadership 100 is also investing in long-term sustainability through strategic planning initiatives such as the Hellenic Education Fund. By developing a comprehensive framework for the Fund, this work will ensure that Greek education remains financially and organizationally strong for generations to come.

Taken together, these initiatives demonstrate the enduring and expanding impact of Leadership 100. By supporting innovation, expanding access, strengthening teaching, and deepening faith formation, Leadership 100 continues to play a vital role in preserving Hellenism and Orthodoxy in America, ensuring that both language and faith remain vibrant, accessible, and alive in communities nationwide.
