Hellenic College Holy Cross School of Theology graduated 52 students at its 75th Commencement May 20, which also awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities to entrepreneur and philanthropist George Logothetis and an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity to Fr. George Poulos, a 1948 graduate of Holy Cross Seminary in Pomfret, Conn.

The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) honored Dennis Mehiel and Dr. George Korkos, both longtime members of Leadership 100, at its 42nd Anniversary Hellenic Heritage Achievement and Public Service Awards Dinner, March 11, 2017, at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C., while the American Hellenic Institute Foundation honored Anne Michals, also a longtime member, at its 15th Annual Future of Hellenism in America Conference November 18-19, 2016 at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Christopher Stratakis Pens First Novel
Christopher Stratakis, a long-time member of Leadership 100, published his first novel, Appointment with Yesterday, a fictionalized memoir. Born and raised in Greece, Stratakis tells a moving tale of Yanni, a Greek boy who grows up on an island in the eastern Aegean. Yanni, left in the care of his grandparents, suffers deprivation and terror during the German occupation of World War II. He leaves Greece to rejoin his parents who had emigrated to pursue a better life in America. The novel captures the determined journey of the young boy.

The American Hellenic Council (AHC) of California honored Dean Spanos, the owner and Chairman of the Board of the Los Angeles Chargers and President of A.G. Spanos Companies and a longtime member of Leadership 100, at its Annual Awards Gala on April 1, 2017 at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.
Dr. Steven Kalkanis Enrolled in Neurological Society
Dr. Steven N. Kalkanis, a new member of Leadership 100, was acknowledged by The Society of Neurological Surgeons with membership in 2016. He is professor and, following a national search in 2014, Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery and Co-Director of the Neuroscience Institute at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan, where he also serves as Director of the Henry Ford Cancer Institute.
Leadership 100 Conference Awards
Leadership 100, meeting at its 26th Annual Conference at the Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa in Manalapan, Florida from February 9-12, 2017, conferred the Archbishop Iakovos Award for Excellence upon Dr. Anthony S. Papadimitriou, President of the Onassis Foundation, James S. Chanos, the pioneering investment manager, Jonathan Jackson, the Emmy Award-winning actor, musician and author, and Gus Kalaris, founder and owner of Constantine Wines, Inc.
A special Archbishop Iakovos Founders Award was presented to Chairman Emeritus Stephen G. Yeonas, for his contributions both as National Membership Chairman and as Chairman of Leadership 100. The presentations took place at the Grand Banquet on Saturday, February 11, 2017.
Greek Orthodox Archdiocese to Continue Leadership 100 Funded Fellowships at the UN
The Department of Inter-Orthodox, Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is inviting graduate and recent post-graduate students to apply for its fellowships at the United Nations, a program of its Faith-based Diplomacy and Advocacy Initiative launched in 2015 with $300,000 in funding from Leadership 100. Since then, a total of three fellowships have been granted.

Leadership 100 has provided generous support for Orthodox Christian Network (OCN) over many years. The most recent grant was for $250,000 over two years, 2015 and 2016. Total grant support from 2001 was $450,000.
Nikitas Drakotos Honored by New Rochelle AHEPA
Nikitas Drakotos, a member of Leadership 100, was honored for his outstanding contributions to Hellenism by The James Plevritis-Joseph C. Keane New Rochelle AHEPA Chapter No. 405 at its annual Initiation/Luncheon, at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, NY on Dec. 3, 2016.
AHI’s Foundation Library Named in Honor of E. John & Cleo Rumpakis
The American Hellenic Institute Foundation (AHIF) announced on January 18, 2017 that AHI’s Foundation Library in Hellenic House will be rededicated and named in honor of E. John and Cleo Rumpakis, of Portland, Oregon, members of Leadership 100, who donated $175,000 to the organization in December of 2016, one of the largest gifts received by AHIF, according to AHI President Nick Larigakis.
