Merkourios A. AHI Founder Honored By Republic Of Cyprus For Exceptional Service
American Hellenic Institute (AHI) Founder Eugene T. Rossides, a member of Leadership 100, was honored with the Republic of Cyprus Presidential Exceptional Service Medal on November 10, 2016, at a ceremony in Washington, DC. Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the United States Leonidas Pantelides presented the medal to Rossides “as a token of our gratitude for a lifetime of dedication to Cyprus and its cause.” The medal requires the approval of Cyprus’s Council of Ministers.

Leadership 100 Chairman Emeritus John A. Payiavlas was honored with the First Annual Jaharis Service Award for his service in the Korean War by the Washington Oxi Day Foundation on October 27, 2016. Michael Jaharis, who passed away in February of 2016 was a Founder of Leadership 100 and a renowned Church leader, philanthropist and business entrepreneur. Presenting the Award was the Jaharis Family Foundation Executive Director, Peggy Sotirhos Nicholson. The ceremony took place on Capitol Hill in the Senate Armed Services Committee Room.

Leadership 100 Chairman Emeritus George D. Behrakis, renowned philanthropist and pharmaceutical industry entrepreneur, was honored at the annual National Hellenic Society (NHS) “Heritage Weekend and Classic” retreat, held October 6-9 at the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada. Leadership 100 Supports Church Camps For Sixth Year
Leadership 100 awarded the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries Camping Ministry program $270,000 for the sixth consecutive year in 2016. Grants of $30,000 were distributed to the Direct Archdiocesan District and to each Metropolis. The primary purpose of the grant is to enable Greek Orthodox youth who do not have the financial means to participate in a summer camp program. Some funding may also be applied to programming, supplies, transportation, youth protection training and background checks of staff members. The program was once again in full swing across the country in the summer of 2016, making it possible for numerous young people to attend camp programs.

Chairman Addresses Clergy-Laity Congress In Nashville

Family Ministry Grant Renewed
Leadership 100 renewed the grant for Family Ministry at The Center for Family Care of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America for $230,000 in 2015. An initiative of His Eminence Geron Archbishop Demetrios, the program has been commissioned with providing resources for family ministry to the Metropolises, parishes, and faithful of the Archdiocese. Leadership 100 has provided financial support to assist the work of the Center, which is under the direction of Fr. Constantine L. Sitaras, since 2005 and the Family Ministry program since 2014.
John Catsimatidis And George Stephanopoulos To Be Commemorated On Greek Postage Stamps
Business leader John Catsimatidis, a member of the Leadership 100 Executive Committee, and ABC Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos, a member of Leadership 100, are among five Greek Americans who will be honored with their likenesses on Greek postage stamps. The others are actress and producer Rita Wilson, physician and Outer Space educator Peter Diamandis and producer/director Costa-Gavras.
Faith And Safety Project Implemented
The Faith and Safety Project of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in conjunction with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops with a $75,000 matching grant in 2015 is providing a faith-based resource on the topic of technology safety, engaging the larger technology industry, and providing ongoing research and data on the topics and trends of digital citizenship for ministry use.
Metropolis of Atlanta Family Life Ministry Advances
The Metropolis of Atlanta Family Life Ministry reports dramatic progress in its programs and training due to the grant support of $200,000 for 2014 and 2015 received from Leadership 100.The Family Life Ministry offers clinical and spiritual tools, concepts, resources, and skills via psycho-educational workshops, seminars, and retreats for clergy and lay families, married couples, singles, divorced, those preparing for marriage, and bereaved individuals; as well as via an active online presence on its blog and social media.
IOCC Develops Youth Service Leadership
Leadership 100 grants of $108,621 over 2015 and 2016 have supported the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) national Youth Service Leadership development gatherings—Serv- X-treme! The Serv-X-treme! gatherings are a part of a broader framework developed by IOCC to develop a national Orthodox Community Action Network (Orthodox CAN!) to nurture and activate the Orthodox Christian value of philanthropy by promoting volunteerism across all age groups of Orthodox Christians in this country.
